Just got a confirmation on this as well. It's totally true & also very sad.
Apparently in the last few days Paul was calling up old friends in the sport to ask if they could loan him some money. Most didn't just because they knew the problems he was having. He wass telling those he called that he was working at the Gold's Gym in Boston but the people at Gold's said he was let go a few months ago according to a couple of people who tried to call him back there. You gotta wonder how bad his last few days were? It is very tragic indeed.
Ironically this photo of Paul is mine as well & one of my favorites of his.
Sending condolances to his family.

Re: Another sad day for the Bodybuilding world.
Jeezus. I wasn't in the bodybuilding scene during his prime, really I was 10 years old and had no interest in lifting weights yet, but later after discovering who he was he quickly became a favorite. Amongst the few nearly flawless white man physiques I'm aware of, there's almost nothing to pick apart on him.
True tragic story, really. His stupid mistake led him down a path I don't think any of us could ever want to see.

Thanks for the clarification taz...as I remember they did get an informant to testify to lessen their charges in another crime in lieu to make a more solid case against Paul.
He never denied it but didn't deserve the rap he got.

It happens in a lot of sports - the music industry is another fine example.
Mat Duvall introduced me to Paul back at the 2001 Arnold Classic while Paul was working on this comeback. He'd been doing some work with Nuclear Nutrition at the time if I remember correctly. I never heard much about him after that. It's sad to hear that he's passed.
He'll be missed - he was a nice guy. It's sad no one could help him with his affliction. :(

Re: Another sad day for the Bodybuilding world.
Damn....not much to say, he's in a better place now, but that is awful.
And it really sucks, because if he died from heroin, I have seen firsthand what can do to a person

Good post PBB...my sentiments exactly
...I enjoyed watching Paul's physique on stage...it seemed like the entire crowd would hold their breath before he hit his quad shots and then just go crazy when he "shook 'em out"...
RIP Paul...

Re: Another sad day for the Bodybuilding world.
Gad, this story wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't for just how sad the whole thing was. I mean, a guy having a surprise heart attack at home is one thing, but this poor guy's life has been in the shitter since he pulled that gun out that day.
I remember reading an interview with him in MD about the situation and I got so mad I couldn't finish it. It was just terrible, he didn't get anything resembling a fair trial. He gets out and the sport that initially had him pegged as a future Mr Olympia just forgot about him. It's hardly surprising he went to drugs, the guy went from Mr O competitor with a Met-RX deal to an ex-con with no home, no family, and no way of getting work.

Re: Another sad day for the Bodybuilding world.
No way. I dont believe it. This is just ****ing stupid, I mean I don't know what to say! Anyone rememeber the POF series from ironman mag? I had all the videos, and the clips of paul showing the execution of some of the exercises pushed me through a lot of shit, and man this just sucks! I really can't believe it. My heart goes out to the mans family and friends, and seriously I hope this serves as a warning to anyone on here that might have a problem-get help NOW. R.I.P. Paul.

Re: Another sad day for the Bodybuilding world.
I can relate somewhat to the bullshit to thinking you have many friends until something goes wrong then you find out for real who your friends are real quick.
I am not inlcuding family in that equation of having frinds even though the same shit happens to family members distancing themselves from you when stuff goes bad.
The funny thing I have noticed about stuff like this(hard times) is that the people who usually ditch you when times get tough are the ones who havent been effectd directly by the shit that happens. They are usually the first to gossip behind your back or even spread rumours. Funnier is the people who stick by your side and will help even though they probably want to run are the ones you do affect directly.
From the sounds of things Paul was at the point where nobody could help him but himself, but fact is people started to ditch him and turn thier back on the guy the minute he got into that domestic dispute, which didnt affect any of these people directly.
anyways be careful of how you treat people on the way up as they will be the people you see on the way back down.
I have been guilty of this and been on the other side as well.
